The Department of Social Welfare and Development – National Training School for Boys (NTSB) recently hosted an educational tour to Social Work students from the Bicol University.

The tour, which was held last May 04, 2015 at the center’s compound in Brgy Sampaloc, Tanay, Rizal aims to provide the said students the basic knowledge and exposure on the different programs and services being provided the center’s client – the children and conflict with the law (CICL).  Specifically, the focused on the roles and functions of the social workers in the rehabilitation of the said clients.

Ms Hayde Dinglasa, NTSB center head welcomed the Bicol University visitors which was composed of seventy one (71) Social Work students and four (4) faculty members.  She also gave a brief orientation of the center’s mandate, facilities and programs and services being implemented.  Ms Dinglasa also discussed briefly the content of Republic Act 9344, also known as the Juvenile Justice Welfare Act.

Ms Dinglasa also took time to respond to the inquiries of the Social Work students, most of which focused on the experiences of the Center’s social workers on case management, the rehabilitative interventions being provided to the residents and the attendance to court cases / hearing.

“We hope that this brief educational tour would encourage you social work students to pursue the professional and be among those who help improve the lives of individuals from the disadvantaged sectors particularly the children in conflict with the law,” Ms Dinglasa summed up.

The NTSB is a residential facility managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IV-A which provides rehabilitative care to boy ages 15  to 18 years old in conflict with the law.  To date, the center has at least 150 clients residents, most of which are from the National Capital and CALABARZON regions.***
