The Department of Social Welfare and Development, through its Field Office IV-A, reported that  a total of 13,741 families across the Region have evacuated to various centers as a preventive measure to the possible effects of  Typhoon Ruby.  TS Ruby is expected to be felt in the Region in the evening of December 8, 2014.****

13,741 families in CALABARZON evacuated to 296 centers

A total of 13,741 families from the CALABARZON Region are currently staying in 296 evacuation centers across the region as a preventive measure to the possible effects of Typhoon Ruby.

Based on the report of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the said families which comprises of 39,097 individuals, are mostly residents of coastal communities who are most likely to be affected by storm surges and flooding.  They are currently staying in evacuation centers in the provinces of Quezon (266 centers), Laguna (14), Batangas (15), and Cavite (1).  Reports from the Province of Rizal on the status of preemptive evacuation conducted in the province are yet to be included in these figures.

The said families were all provided assistance by their respective local government units.  The DSWD will also provide assistance to these families, mostly in form of family food packs, as an augmentation to the assistance being provided by the local government.

As of 6 AM of December 8, a total of 32,000 family food packs had been readied for distribution.  Majority of these were prepositioned in different local government units.  The said relief goods have a total cost of Php12,568,950.00.

DSWD Field Office IV-A is currently on a 24-hours disaster monitoring.  Regional and Provincial Quick Response Teams are continuously coordinating with the different local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Councils in the region.  Repacking of relief goods are also being conducted at the regional warehouse in GMA, Cavite.***
