At least 31,000 family food packs had been readied by the Department of Social Welfare and Development to families that would be affected by Typhoon Ruby in the CALABARZON region alone.****

DSWD READIES GOODS FOR RUBY AFFECTED FAMILIES IN CALABARZON

As of 2:30 PM December 7, 2014, the Department of Social Welfare and Development already have at least 31,000 food packs ready for distribution to families that would be affected by Typhoon Ruby in the CALABARZON Region alone.

Based on the report of DSWD Field Office IV-A, 28,000 of the said food packs are currently at the Field Office Warehouse in Gen Mariano Alvarez, Cavite alone and are already scheduled to be transported to the five provinces of the region – Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. The other 3,000 food packs had already been prepositioned in the municipalities of Sta Cruz (Laguna), Pililla and Jalaja (Rizal).

The said food packs, which have a total amount of Php12,161,400.00, will serve as an augmentation to the relief goods to be provided by the affected local government units. Each food pack contains 6 kilos of rice, 10 tins of assorted canned goods, 6 packs of coffee and 6 packs of noodles. One food pack is estimated to enough to serve a family of 6 for two days.

As of 10:00 AM December 7, the report of DSWD IV-A indicates that a total of 6,454 families (28,925 individuals had already been evacuated to 209 evacuations centers. Majority of these are in Quezon Province. The said evacuation had been conducted by the different local government units as a preventive measure to the possible effects of Typhoon Ruby, especially in coastal communities.

The number of food packs reported does not include the food packs being prepared at the DSWD National Warehouse in Pasay City. The National warehouse and the Regional Warehouse are both conducting 24-hours repacking of relief goods.

The effects of Typhoon Ruby are expected to be felt in the region anytime between the evening of December 7 until the morning of December 8, 2014***
