KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP VOLUNTEERS DEVELOP COMMUNITY PROJECT PROPOSALS IN CALAUAG

Almost 300 volunteers from the 81 barangays of Calauag, Quezon were trained by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to develop project proposals for their prioritized sub-projects to the Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services-National Community Driven Development Program (KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP) during the three-day Project Development Workshop held in the municipality.

The volunteers, comprising of the Barangay Sub-Project Management Committee Chairperson and Project Preparation Team of each barangay, were taught to draft the timeline, financial cost, and operations and maintenance plan for their sub-project. The proposed sub-projects are the barangay’s identified solutions to the pressing needs on basic social services of their community.

The finalized proposals will be forwarded to KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP Project Management Team this November for the approval of fund release. The funds are expected to be distributed in the barangays this December to start the construction of sub-projects on the first quarter of 2015.

Recognizing the volunteers’ efforts, Calauag Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Jerwin T. Navarro said in his message that the local government will also review the proposals to plan for activities and projects in line with the needs identified by the barangays.

“Kami ay humahanga sa inyong mga volunteers na hindi naghahangad ng kapalit na salapi sa oras at panahon na binibigay ninyo sa programa. Sa inyo kami humuhugot ng inspirasyon para patuloy na magsagawa ng mga programang mag-aangat sa antas ng kabuhayan ng mamamayan ng Calauag,” Navarro added.

The Project Development Workshop is one of KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP’s activities that aims to train and include volunteers in the planning and preparation of project proposals. Once equipped with knowledge, communities can also create proposals for their own barangay projects which they can forward to other agencies and programs to source out funds.

KALAHI CIDSS-NCDDP is the expansion into a national scale of operations of the community-driven development approach which targets to empower communities by including them in the local planning, decision-making, and implementation of community projects. It targets the coverage of 20 poorest and typhoon-affected municipalities in Quezon province, which includes the municipality of Calauag.
