Haven for the Elderly holds UN day celebration.

Aside from services that ensure healthy living for its elderly residents, the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal also continuously conducts activities geared towards keeping the residents active, high spirited and confident that they are still productive members of the society  despite of their situation.

Last October 21, 2014, the Department of Social Welfare and Development held a United Nations (UN) Day Celebration at the Haven for the Elderly wherein the residents, and even the staff, participated in a parade wearing attires representing different nations.

Just like the other activities being conducted in the center, the celebration gave the elderly residents an opportunity to express their creativity (particularly in the preparation of their attires), to show the sharpness of their minds through the sharing of country trivia held after the parade and to show their camaraderie through the presentation of talents.

The Haven for the Elderly is a facility managed by the DSWD that provides temporary residential care to abandoned, neglected and unattached older Filipino ages 60 years old and above.  Aside from residential / homelife and socio-recreational activities, the centers also provide their residents health, case management, economic / livelihood and psycho-social services.

According to Ricky A. Bunao, the Haven for the Elderly Center Manager, the conduct of such activity is important as it does not only highlight the participation of the center in the nationwide celebration, but it also serves as a venue for creativity and enjoyment among residents and staff.  Such activities also help beat boredom commonly experienced by residents.
