Strengthening families, promoting change

“Kaya ko ang pagbabago basta’t sama-sama ang buo at masayang pamilya,” shared the Reñido Family of Brgy. Aguado in Trece Martires City, Cavite Province.

The Reñido Family is one of the more than 40 family-beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program in the CALABARZON Region who pledged their commitment to strengthen their families and move forward to achieve positive changes in their lives during the Family Camp held in Alta Rios Resort, Indang, Cavite.

The Family Camp was initiated by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in celebration of the National Family Week. The said activity was conducted in partnership with various civil society organizations and local government units.

Strong families towards change

According to Dir. Leticia T. Diokno, Regional Director of DSWD IV-A, the activity gives the families an opportunity to learn, communicate and respect each member towards a better relationship at home.

“Sang-ayon na rin sa layunin ng programang Pantawid Pamilya, hinihikayat namin ang bawat pamilya na maging mas matatag at patuloy na magsikap para mapaunlad ang bawat isa,” Dir. Diokno added.

Activities during the camp include discussions on positive discipline, open communication at home, serving the community, respecting persons with disability, climate change and first aid among others. Various teambuilding activities were also conducted to promote strengthened relationship among family members.

“Dito po sa activity na ito natutunan ko na napakaimportante pala ng pagmamahal, pag-unawa at pag-guide sa bawat miyembro ng pamilya para maging matagumpay,” shared Joseph Adarlo, 43, of Brgy. Cotta, Lucena City who participated in the activity with his wife and two children.

Recognizing model families, partners

Regional and provincial winners of the Search for Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya 2014 as well as civil society organization (CSO) partners were also recognized in the activity.

The CSO partners recognized by the agency are Bethsaida CBR Services for the Disabled, Inc, CBAP-Cavite Ministries and iHelp. All these partners have been involved in the implementation of the Family Development Sessions for the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilya program for more than a year already.

“Malaki ang pasasalamat namin sa inyong mga volunteers na aming katuwang sa pagsasagawa ng FDS kahit na wala kayong natatanggap na kahit na anong pondo mula sa aming ahensya,” shared Dir. Diokno.

The agency also acknowledged this year’s Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya—the Ayad Family of Brgy. Victoria Reyes in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. The family, whose only source of income is through managing a small fruit stand in front of their home, still manages to serve their community without expecting anything in return.

Other families recognized are the Lorida Family from Majayjay, Laguna (2nd Place – Regional Level), Mundin Family from Sto. Tomas, Batangas (3rd Place – Regional Level) and provincial winners—the Ronda Family (Tanay, Rizal), De Chavez Family (Lemery, Batangas) and Agquiz Family (Alaminos, Laguna).***
