TRAINING TODAY, SURE EMPLOYMENT LATER. Ms. Marigold Alfuerte, administrator of the Technological College of Quezon, encourages the scholars and their parents to do their part in helping themselves improve their lives through the interventions of the DSWD, the local government unit, and private agencies. The TCQ is providing 100 scholarship slots under their Training for Work Scholarship Program for high school graduate members of Pantawid Pamilya households in Lucena City, Sariaya and Pagbilao, Quezon.

At least 30 high school graduates from household-beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program here are now undergoing training at the Technological College of Quezon (TCQ) in Lucena City for guaranteed employment after 45 to 55 days. This is part of the intervention of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to increase the well-being of the beneficiaries outside of what the program is doing.

The DSWD, through its Field Office IV-A, has partnered with TCQ for the provision of Training for Work Scholarship Program for selected beneficiaries. The scholarship program offers free training to students on consumer hardware servicing (computer assembly and repair) for 45 days and consumer electronics servicing (cellphone repair) for 55 days. The scholarship is granted to members of Pantawid Pamilya households who are 18-25 years old, high school graduate and physically-fit.

“Employment is guaranteed at the end of the training program because what they are training for is the urgent need of the industry. This partnership can help these trainees have a stable source of income once they finish the course,” said Ms. Marigold Alfuerte, TCQ administrator, during the orientation with scholars held last February 26.

Mary Jane Andal, 20, whose family is one of the beneficiaries of Pantawid Pamilya in Sariaya, Quezon, is grateful to the said training program. She finished high school but no longer pursued college education as she needs to work immediately to help her family.

“Napakahalaga sa akin ang ganitong training lalo na at libreng ibinibigay sa mga katulad ko. Makakatulong ito para magkaroon kami ng mas magandang trabaho para mas matulungan namin ang aming mga pamilya,” Andal shared.

According to Alfuerte, the TCQ had already trained a number of high school graduates and many of whom are now employed in electronic companies mostly in techno parks in Laguna.  Also, she adds that the Local Government Unit of Sariaya provides assistance in finding employment for their graduates. The 30 scholars from Sariaya compose the first of the three batches of high school graduates from Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program family-beneficiaries which the institution committed to be provided with free training. More scholars from Lucena City and Pagbilao, Quezon are expected to avail of the said training program this year.

The DSWD, through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, supports the health and educational needs of children zero to 14 years old belonging to poor families. Apart from this, the Department engages partnership from private agencies such as TCQ to ensure that the investments of the program will be sustained for the improved lives of the beneficiaries.***
