Beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) from Brgy. Sabang in Polillo, Quezon committed to work with the local government in achieving zero open defecation in their barangay. Last June 26, 16 4Ps beneficiaries attended the orientation on health and sanitation organized in partnership with the Rural Health Unit, local government unit, and 4Ps Municipal Operations Office..

According to Ma. Cielo Ducot, the assigned 4Ps Municipal Link in the area, these beneficiaries are those identified to have no access to a sanitary toilet. They belong to the 32 percent of residents in the barangay who have no access to a facility.

Through the 4Ps Municipal Operations Office, the DSWD identified the reasons behind this problem, which included financial constraints, land ownership, and other behavioral factors.

As part of the goals of the 4Ps, the DSWD promotes health and nutrition, including access to drinking water and sanitary toilets, towards improving the beneficiaries’ living conditions. As such, the DSWD is providing appropriate interventions to these families to enable them to have a sanitary toilet at home.
All the 4Ps beneficiaries expressed their willingness and committed to save money and construct their own sanitary toilet by the end of 2024. [with reports from MCGDucot]
