Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between DSWD IV-A and Kahariam Farms for livelihood skills trainings of beneficiaries.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development signed a partnership with Kahariam Farms in Lipa City, Batangas Province for the provision of various livelihood trainings for poor families, especially those who are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

The Kahariam Farms is a family-owned organic farm that aims to share the importance of health and nutrition through organic faming.

The said partnership, which is under the DSWD’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), will provide livelihood skills trainings including animal (swine, goat and cow) raising, vermiculture, organic farming, food processing, oyster mushroom production, chicken egg layering, cookery and basic sewing and tailoring among others.

These trainings will be provided by the Kahariam Farms starting this October 2015.

“The DSWD is continuously enhancing partnerships with the private sectors for the employment and skills trainings of the beneficiaries we serve. We are grateful to the Kahariam Farms for welcoming this kind of partnership,” shared DSWD IV-A Leticia T. Diokno.

Mr. Nonong Bagatsing, the farm owner, also thanked the DSWD for the opportunity to provide various opportunities for the poor families.

Dir. Diokno also added that this partnership with the Kahariam Farms will give our beneficiaries a sustainable livelihood and will also teach them about environment conservation and protection.

The SLP is one of the core social protection programs implemented alongside Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program that seeks to capacitate beneficiaries in contributing to labor markets through micro-enterprise development and employment facilitation.

Through the SLP, the beneficiaries are provided with opportunities to gain sustainable livelihood so they can stand on their own and support their respective families even when they no longer are supported by the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.# with reports from JOCuya and DKTanedo
