COMMITTED TO HELP. At least 150 parent leaders from Lipa City in Batangas Province commit to help the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in ensuring that the help of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, especially the cash grants, is used properly by all beneficiaries. In a Parent Leaders’ Dialogue last May 27, DSWD Sec. Corazon Juliano-Soliman stressed that the government and the beneficiaries must work together to improve their lives.

‘WE ARE PARTNERS’ – SEC SOLIMAN TO PANTAWID BENEFICIARIES

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Sec. Corazon Juliano-Soliman stressed to the beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program that the government and the beneficiaries are partners in alleviating poverty. This is her message during her dialogue with at least 150 parent leaders from Lipa City in Batangas Province last May 27.

Sec. Soliman cited the stories of change shared by the beneficiaries during the dialogue, particularly on the impact of the Family Development Sessions (FDS) under the Pantawid Pamilya Program to the beneficiaries.

The FDS is a monthly gathering of Pantawid Pamilya parent-grantees and is one of their co-responsibilities as beneficiaries of the program. These sessions teach parents on various topics including strengthening marital relationships, positive discipline, financial management and disaster preparedness among others.

According to Librada Leviste, a beneficiary from Brgy. Inusluban in the said city, the Pantawid Pamilya program not only helped their families financially but also helped them to be better parents and members of the community.

Engaging the parent leaders

Sec. Soliman also enlisted the parent leaders’ help in ensuring that the program’s help is used properly.

Leviste and the rest of the parent leaders commit to this responsibility.

Further, Sec. Soliman solicited the help of the parent leaders in the ongoing 2015 household assessment conducted by the DSWD under the Listahanan targeting system. The Listahanan identifies who and where the poor are nationwide through house to house assessments.
