A total of 200 residents of Cavinti, Laguna completed various community projects in their barangays aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change under the DSWD’s Risk Resiliency Program thru Project LAWA at BINHI. Last May 27, these projects were turned over by the Department and the local government to the residents for their onward care and maintenance.
Under the Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished), residents are capacitated and engaged in cash-for-training and work activities to develop and sustain projects that would help address food insecurity and water insufficiency in their communities.
In the town of Cavinti, the residents completed communal and school gardens, installation of water harvesting facilities, and rehabilitation of fish ponds.
Prior to the turnover of the projects to the residents, all of them underwent a Sustainability Workshop where they were capacitated on working together to ensure that these projects remain functional and able to help with their needs.
In exchange for their participation in the program, all the residents will receive PhP 10,400 cash assistance that they can use to help meet their families’ needs. [with reports from MPBOrdoveza]
