April 22, 2025 – Five hundred ten (510) students from the Cavite State University are currently participating in a capacity-building activity being conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development in preparation for the implementation of the Tara Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) in Bacoor City this May 2025.

The said activity, which is spearheaded by the DSWD Field Office IV-A, aims to build the capacities of the identified college students who will be participating in the Tara Basa Tutoring Program implementation in the locality.

Of the said number of college students, 373 of them will serve as tutors who will be providing complementary learning to identified incoming Grade 2 pupils who have difficulty in reading. These student-tutors will provide tutorial sessions to student-learners for 20 days using a specific learning module.

The other 173 college students will serve as youth development workers who will be providing learning sessions to the parents of the identified Grade 2 pupils to help enable the parents to provide the necessary learning support at home after the tutorial sessions or even beyond the program implementation period.

According to Jeffrey De Vera, the TBTP Focal Person for Bacoor City, the five-day capacity building activity is focused on providing character development and enhancing the teaching skills and style of the participants.

“Based on responses and reactions of our student-participants, they are having fun and they find the sessions informative and engaging.  Hopefully, at the end of this capacity building activity, these would-be tutors and youth development workers will be physically prepared, focused, and equipped to take on the challenges of their tasks,” De Vera added.

In Bacoor City, the DSWD targets 5,000 children and parents from 31 participating elementary schools. [with reports from JDevera]
