A total of 5,843 children from Bacoor City, Cavite and various municipalities in Quezon Province completed the 20-day tutorial sessions in 2024 under the DSWD’s Tara Basa! Tutoring Program.
These children, identified by the Department of Education, were those incoming Grade 1 and 2 pupils who were struggling readers at the time of the implementation of the program.
Meanwhile, the parents of these children also underwent 20-day Nanay-Tatay Sessions to guide them in teaching their children after the program implementation.
For the whole duration of the program, the DSWD Field Office IV-A, in partnership with state universities and colleges in Cavite and Quezon, deployed 1,217 college students as tutors and youth development workers.

In exchange for their 20-days of engagement under the program, these college students and the parents of the children received cash assistance amounting to PhP38.5 Million.
The Tara Basa! Tutoring Program is a new program of the DSWD that engages college students from low-income families in providing sessions to elementary students and their parents to help improve the children’s reading skills.#
