A total of 146 residents of Taysan, Batangas completed the three-day cash-for-training from July 17-19 under the DSWD’s Risk Resiliency Program thru Project LAWA at BINHI.* The said training is conducted in partnership with the local government unit of the said town, particularly the offices of the Municipal Agriculture and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management.

The said residents, who are farmers and fisherfolks or belonging to poor families, were provided inputs on disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, as well as starting their community projects.

After the training, the residents will be constructing small farm reservoirs and community gardens to provide sufficient nutritious food for their families and communities.

The three-day training is part of the 20-day program of the Project LAWA at BINHI that also includes 15 days of paid work and two days of assessment.

In exchange for the participation of the residents, they will receive PhP 9,400 each, which they can use to support their families’ needs. [with reports from JSEspinosa]
