A total of 611 residents from eight barangays of Sto. Tomas City, Batangas completed river rehabilitation and community gardening projects under the DSWD’s Risk Resiliency Program – Cash-for-Training and Work thru Project LAWA at BINHI (Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished).

Last July 16, the said residents received PhP 9,400 each, amounting to PhP 5.74 M, as part of their 20-day engagement in the program.

The Project LAWA at BINHI is a program implemented by the DSWD that capacitates community residents towards engaging in disaster risk mitigation and climate change adaptation projects while providing them with a temporary source of income for their families.

After the completion of the projects, the residents are eyeing to form a group towards the maintenance and continuity of their established projects. [with reports from JSEspinosa]
