Last July 25, the Provincial Government of Laguna, together with the officials from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Municipality of Calauan, inaugurated the newly constructed two-storey building at the Bahay Pag-asa compound in Calauan, Laguna.

Laguna Governor Ramil Hernandez and DSWD Undersecretary Mark Allan Yambao led the inauguration ceremony for the said new facility, which will provide additional 20 bed spaces for clients. The building will also house the offices for administrative, guidance counselling and social services.

Gov. Hernandez, in his message to the visitors and guests, expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of all partner institutions to the programs of the provincial government in response to the incidence of juvenile delinquency. He also took the occasion to recognize all the individuals who are part of the management and operations of operations of Bahay Pag-asa.

On the other hand, Usec Yambao highlighted the important role of the government on the same issue.

“Ang problema o pagkakaroon ng conflict with the law ng kabataan, hindi po katapusan ng kanilang kinabukasan. Nandito po ang pamahalaan natin, national government, provincial government upang tulungan, i-guide ang kabataan natin at ibalik, makisalamuha muli sa ating lipunan at maging productive na mga kabataan,” said Usec Yambao in his message.

The Bahay Pag-asa in Calauan, Laguna is a 24-hour child-caring institution managed by the Provincial Government through the support of partner government and private organizations. It serves as a temporary home for children in conflict with the law age above 15 and below 18 years who are awaiting court decisions on their cases. Bahay Paga-asa provides residential care to its clients, including needed interventions that would enable them to become productive members of the society.

Also present during the inauguration are DSWD Asst. Sec. Glenda Relova, Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) Executive Director Attorney Trisha Oco and DSWD Field Office IV-A Director Annie E. Mendoza.

Since 2016, Calauan’s Bahay Pag-asa has already reintegrated 77 children out of 97 children. Calauan’s Bahay Pag-asa is among the 55 LGU-run Bahay Pag-asa facilities in the Philippines.
