Bacoor City Mayor Lani Revilla Mercado receives the check amounting to PhP9,055,800 from DSWD IV-A Assistant Regional Director Annie Mendoza to fund the Supplementary Feeding Program implementation in the city this school year.

A total of 5,031 children in Bacoor City in Cavite Province will begin supplementary feeding this school year. This is after the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) awarded PhP9,055,800 to the local government unit for the funding of the Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) during the city’s Nutrition Month Celebration last July 25, 2016.

The said children are those enrolled in child development centers and supervised neighborhood play sites in the city.

The SFP is part of the DSWD’s contribution to the Early Childhood Care and Development program that provides food in addition to the regular meals to two to five-year-old children currently enrolled in child development centers or supervised neighborhood play sites.

This feeding program, managed by the beneficiaries’ parents, aims to improve and sustain the nutritional status of the beneficiaries through the provision of hot meals for 120 days.

Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado Revilla, in her message during the awarding ceremony, thanked the DSWD for the provision of funds to cater to the nutritional needs of children in the city.

To date, there are a total of five local government units in the province with ongoing feeding programs under the DSWD’s SFP.

This school year, the DSWD targets to reach 196,494 children in this feeding program amounting to a total of PhP353.69 million in the CALABARZON Region.# with reports from RSajor & CMartinez
