The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has recently awarded PhP1 Million capital assistance to two Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) associations in Infanta, Quezon. The said assistance is for their proposed group enterprises, which include community store and hog raising businesses.

These group enterprises where funded through the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB) scheme, which involved the local residents in the planning and budgeting of resources.

This capital assistance, through the DSWD’s SLP, will benefit 100 households in Brgy. Dinahican in the said town. Majority of them are beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program.

In the awarding ceremony held last August 27, DSWD IV-A Regional Director Leticia T. Diokno emphasized to the beneficiaries that the DSWD is providing opportunities like this to ensure the sustainability of the gains of the Pantawid Pamilya program.

“One of the goals of the Pantawid Pamilya is to break the cycle of poverty. That’s why we are providing cash grants to ensure that the children are healthy and are in school. To ensure that the parents continue using the grants for the children, we are providing livelihood opportunities to help them provide for the other needs of the family,” shared Dir. Diokno.

She also encouraged the beneficiaries to work together to ensure the success of their chosen enterprises.

Cherry Vargas, a beneficiary of the SLP, shared her gratitude for the opportunity.

“Gagamitin naming sandigan at pagyayamanin ang tulong na ibinibigay sa amin. Gagamitin namin ito para maging mas maunlad ang aming mga pamilya lalo na para sa kinabukasan ng mga kabataan ngayon,” Vargas said.

The SLP is one of the core poverty reduction programs of the DSWD implemented alongside Pantawid Pamilya to capacitate poor households to actively contribute to production and labor markets through livelihood assistance or employment facilitation.# with reports from JOCuya
