Senior citizens who are residents of the Haven for the Elderly joined in the celebration of the Nutrition Month this July 2015. With the theme “Timbang iwasto sa tamang nutrisyon at ehersisyo,” the activity promoted good health and active lifestyle to the senior citizens for a longer life.

The Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal is managed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IV-A that provides residential care to senior citizens who are abandoned, neglected and needy.

To date, there are 237 senior citizens being cared for in the said center.

During the month-long celebration, various activities have been conducted and one of the highlights is the Nutri-Pageant, a search for NutriLolo and NutriLola. The said pageant not only dressed up the senior citizens with costumes incorporating local nutritious food but also gauged their awareness on good health and active lifestyle through the question and answer portion.

Center Head Ricky Bunao, in his message to the residents, shared that the older persons must maintain an active lifestyle and proper health and nutrition. Together with other staff in the center, Bunao enjoined the residents to apply what they learn from the celebration for a happier and longer life.

Besides the NutriPageant, other activities during the celebration include the Nutri-Parade and lecture on the benefits of healthy living.# with reports from CMBacwaden & NPVicente
