102 barangays build Kalahi-CIDSS projects in Quezon

As of April 30, a total of 102 barangays in Quezon province have started the construction of their proposed sub-projects to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) program, Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).

The sub-projects, projected to be completed in two to three months, are expected to improve community’s access to basic social services and address people’s pressing needs. Among these are farm-to-market roads, community centers, river controls, spillways, health stations, line canals, classrooms, and street lights.

Prior the construction, the DSWD provided trainings and planning workshops to the community volunteers of the 615 Kalahi-CIDSS target barangays to equip them with basic knowledge in implementing their proposed sub-projects. After which, the volunteers prepared financial plan, developed construction estimates, and procured construction materials needed for the sub-projects.

Out of the 615, the 102 barangays are the first batch to complete the documents for sub-project construction. The remaining 513 are still finalizing their financial and estimates plan before proceeding to procurement and sub-project construction. It is targeted that all the proposed sub-projects will be completed by September.

Once finished with the construction, the community volunteers will form a group for the operations and maintenance of the sub-projects. A community evaluation on the barangay’s and municipality’s performance throughout the program implementation will soon follow, which marks the end of the first Kalahi-CIDSS cycle.

The Kalahi-CIDSS is a DSWD poverty alleviation program that aims to empower local residents to participate in the planning, decision-making, and implementation of community projects that will best address their needs. In CALABARZON region, a total of PhP365.83 Million Kalahi-CIDSS grant is provided to the 615 target barangays in Quezon province to implement their proposed sub-projects.
