The Department of Social Welfare and Development had provided a total of Php2,022,121.00 worth of relief goods to 16,387 families affected by Typhoon Mario in the CALABARZON Region alone, as of 10 AM of September 20, 2014.

The said affected families are from the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, Laguna and Batangas, particularly in the low-lying, flood-prone municipalities. These municipalities are Rodriguez, San Mateo, Baras, Tanay, Morong, Cardona, Angono, Binangonan, Cainta, Taytay and Antipolo City in Rizal; San Pedro, Bay, Sta Cruz, Mabitac and Sta Maria in Laguna; Noveleta, Rosario, Bacoor and Kawit in Cavite; and San Pascual, Calatagan, Bauan and Batangas City in Batangas.

Of the affected families, 10,737 were served in evacuation centers set up in the said areas.  A total of 128 evacuation centers are still operating from the 165 evacuation centers opened last September 19 at the height of the rainfall caused by TS Mario.

The relief goods provided to affected families by the Department, in coordination with the concerned local government units, include food packs, noodles, ready-to-eat foods, bottled water, loaves of bread and used clothing.

According to Ms. Marlene Adante of the disaster management section of DSWD Field Office IV-A, the Department, in coordination with the Office of Civil Defense for CALABARZON, is currently conducting a post disaster risk assessment in the affected areas in Rizal Province.***
