May 05, 2026 – Learners under the DSWD’s Tara Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) in the CALABARZON Region are set to receive kits aimed at aiding them during their 20-day reading tutorial sessions that will commence this May 2026.
Under the said program, incoming grade 2 pupils identified by the Department of Education (DepEd) to be struggling readers will undergo reading tutorial sessions facilitated by college students tapped by the DSWD in exchange for educational assistance.

Each learner will receive a kit, which contains a backpack with pencils, crayons, sharpener, eraser, pencil case, notebook, paper, mesh cap as well as flashlight and whistle.
According to Christopher Mariano, the Regional Program Coordinator of the TBTP, these kits will not only ensure that the children have supplies for the sessions but will also help encourage them to actively participate in the sessions.
“Dahil sa mga gamit na ito, inaasahan namin na mas -magiging bibo ang mga learners na makilahok sa mga aktibidades natin sa bawat tutoring session,” Mariano explained.
To date, the DSWD Field Office IV-A is distributing these said kits for more than 5,0000 learners in all implementing areas of the program, including the whole of Quezon Province; Bacoor City in Cavite; Sta. Cruz, Cavinti, and Cabuyao City in Laguna; and Calaca City in Batangas.#
