March 06, 2025 – Eighty two (82) students of the Colegio de la Ciudad de Tayabas (CCT) prepare for their engagement with the DSWD’s Tara Basa! Tutoring Program that will start this May 2025.

In a session with the said students last March 3, the DSWD Field Office IV-A oriented the students on the policies of the program, including their roles and responsibilities in its successful implementation.

The TBTP is a program of the DSWD that aims to support the literacy development of incoming Grade 2 pupils who are identified as struggling readers.

The students, 48 will be engaged as tutors, will directly work with children to conduct reading tutorial sessions. On the other hand, 34 will be engaged as youth development workers to conduct Nanay-Tatay sessions for their parents aimed at capacitating them to effectively assist their children’s reading exercises at home.

In exchange for their engagement with the program, the students will receive financial assistance that they can use to support their needs for their education.

School Dean Dr. Michael Pureza of the CCT expressed his gratitude to the TBTP and encouraged the students to work with the DSWD all throughout its implementation.

According to him, their students will not only get educational assistance but also gain experience that will be helpful in developing their skills as future educators. [with reports from GJAGilbuena]
