Dahican’s street light sub-project

The national road along Brgy. Dahican in Catanauan, Quezon province is now well-lit due to the street lights sub-project of the community implemented under DSWD’s Kalahi-CIDSS PAMANA program. The residents utilized the PhP328,000.00 grant to install a total of 20 street lights, lighting at least a kilometer of the road, to help prevent car accidents in the area.

DSWD builds 134 peace-promoting projects in Quezon

As of April, more than half of the 134 proposed sub-projects in hard-to-reach and conflict-affected communities in Quezon province are fully constructed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) program, Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).

The sub-projects, built in the municipalities of Buenavista, Catanauan, Mulanay, and San Narciso, are expected to resolve or at least lessen community conflicts such as insurgencies, theft, and security issues. It also aims to hasten delivery of social services in the said areas to help normalize people’s living condition.

Among the built sub-projects include access roads, footbridges, pathways, electrification, water systems, communal toilets, and installation of street lights. There are still 61 ongoing sub-projects that are targeted to be completed by June.

The said sub-projects are community-proposed and implemented under the third cycle of Kalahi-CIDSS modality PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (PAMANA). The Kalahi-CIDSS PAMANA, seeking to promote peace and development to communities, provided a total grant of PhP40.74 Million for the implementation of the sub-projects.

By June, the Kalahi-CIDSS PAMANA will also start the fourth and last program cycle in the same municipalities, covering a total of 104 barangays. The residents from the target barangays will identify and plan for another set of need-responsive sub-projects to be implemented for a year. The program will allot around PhP31 Million for the last cycle roll out.

The Kalahi-CIDSS is a DSWD poverty alleviation program that empowers local residents to plan, decide, and implement community projects that best address their needs. It has modalities that respond to particular social services needed in poor communities.

One of the Kalahi-CIDSS modalities is PAMANA, which is the government’s program that extends development interventions in isolated, poor communities. National government agencies including DSWD work hand in hand with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) in implementing the said program.

The DSWD has been implementing the Kalahi-CIDSS PAMANA program in CALABARZON region since 2012.
