The Department of Social Welfare and Development recently inaugurated the Greenhouse project constructed, in partnership with Cherry Mobile Foundation, at the Haven for the Elderly in Tanay, Rizal.

The said project, which is part of the institution’s organic farming program, will serve as the seed bank for organic vegetables and would make the center become self sustaining in terms of vegetable supplies.

Ricky Bunao, the center manager of Haven for the Elderly, thanked the Cherry Mobile Foundation, the I Care for my City Foundation and the Barangay Council of Sampaloc, Tanay for their support to the project.

“Napaka-halaga po ng inyong supporta dito sa Greenhouse project ng aming center dahil maliban po sa makakatulong po itong project na ito sa pag-supply ng mga gulay dito sa center, ito po ay magsisilbi din paraan kung saan makapagbibigay kami ng  therapeutic activities sa mga matatandang residente dito,” Bunao said during the simple inauguration ceremony.

For their part, the partners committed to continuously support projects of the center, especially the Greenhouse project.

Haven for the Elderly is a DSWD-managed facility which provides residential care to abandoned and neglected older persons.  Currently, the center has more than 250 older person residents.

One of the residents, Lolo Abel Fuentes acknowledged the importance and benefits  of the project to them.

“Maganda po na may Greenhouse kami dito dahil magkakaroon po kami ng dagdag libangan dito,” Lolo Abel said.  with reports from LLSebastian***
